At The Discovery School, we value the social and emotional development of our children and understand that working closely with our families will enable the best outcomes for children. We are very lucky to have a well established SEMH team, including Amanda Lihou, our Family Liaison Officer (also known as a FLO).
Hello, my name is Amanda Lihou and I am the Family Liaison Officer here at The Discovery School. My role is to provide pastoral support to parents and carers to ensure that their children can learn positively and flourish during their time at The Discovery School.
I am able to help with issues that you may have in relation to supporting your children both at home and in school. I work to encourage parental involvement within school, signpost to agencies (where appropriate).
Should you have a personal concern or school related issue, then I am here to offer support.
I liaise with all school staff, always in the best interests of the children and their families. I work impartially and confidentially and can provide a ‘listening ear’ if you ever need advice or support.
What kind of support can you offer?
Amanda is able to offer a range of support to parents and children, including talking therapy, play based support, 1:1 and group support. Amanda's time is commissioned via the SEMH team where decisions are made as to the most appropriate support for the child / family. Amanda is part of our successful, three-tiered approach to support wellbeing, which can be seen here . Amanda's work is varied, from supporting children through family separation, to those who have experienced bereavement, to working with children who have anxiety based school refusal. Amanda also works with a range of outside agencies that are able to support our families, including facilitating training for our parents and signposting to other services.
How can I contact Amanda?
If you have any concerns about your child, then the first port of call would be their class teacher who will be able to direct this to the SEMH team.
Amanda can be contacted at school via email firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01732 847000. Please note that she works in school Monday - Thursday 8am to 3pm.
