Pupil Support

At The Discovery School, we value the social and emotional development of our children and understand that working closely with our families will enable the best outcomes for children.  We are very lucky to have a well established SEMH team, including Sarah Boyd our Pupil Support Worker as well as Emma Randle (and Sam the dog!) as our Lunchtime Pupil Support Worker.

What kind of support can be offered?

Our Pupil Support Workers are able to offer a range of support to parents and children, including talking therapy, play based support, 1:1 and group support.  Their time is commissioned via the SEMH team where decisions are made as to the most appropriate support for the child / family.  Our Pupil Support Workers are part of our successful, three-tiered approach to support wellbeing, which can be seen here . Their work is varied, from supporting children through family separation, to those who have experienced bereavement, to working with children who have anxiety based school refusal.  They also work with a range of outside agencies that are able to support our families, including facilitating training for our parents and signposting to other services.

How can I contact our Pupil Support Workers?

If you have any concerns about your child, then the first port of call would be their class teacher who will be able to direct this to the SEMH team.

Sarah Boyd, would then be your next step and can be contacted at school via email sboyd@discovery.kent.sch.uk or telephone 01732 847000.
