Year 3 Reminders

  • Please remember that on PE days PE uniforms must be worn into school.

  • Nightingale Class have PE on Mondays.

  • Curie and Seacole Classes have PE on Tuesdays.

As stated in the recorder letter, you may wish to purchase a recorder to support your child's learning.  This is not compulsory as the school does have enough recorders available.  If you do wish to do so, we recommend the Aulos 303 Descant Recorder or the Tiger Blue Descant Recorder.  Both of these retail for under £10.  If you do purchase a recorder for your child, please remember to clearly write your child's name on it so it can easily be identified.

Year 3 Timetable

You can download our Year 3 timetable below. Please note that the times of some lessons may differ, however, every class covers the same learning. Computing is not included on the timetable as each Year Group has dedicated time to teach the Computing curriculum across the year.

Curriculum

The curriculum at The Discovery School is enquiry based. The children are encouraged to ask and answer questions about a topic.

Through enquiry based learning, the children get opportunities to experience a range of activities which will help to develop their knowledge and skills in school and the wider world.

Click here to see how we develop the children's cultural capital and science capital through a range of experiences.

Homework

Homework will be set weekly through the school's online learning platform, 'Purple Mash'. Homework will take the following form:

  • Reading every night for 10 minutes.  Children are expected to read every night and bring their reading record into school each day. Please enjoy listening to your child read; record comments in their reading record, including any areas of particular success or challenge. The class teaching assistant will then record the your child's reading progress at school and issue new books when they need them.

  • Times table practice. Children must practise times tables at home each week. We will notify you of which times table your child should be working on. We will be setting some times table practice on our online platform Purple Mash LGFL.  This will be set weekly and should only take 5 minutes to complete. In addition, we encourage the children to practise their times tables everyday.  Do not forget that every child also has access to TT Rock stars too! https://ttrockstars.com/

  • Spelling.  The children will have a spelling sound / phoneme to learn each week and will be tested on these towards the end of each week. The children in each class will be told when their spelling sound quiz will take place. Looking for and talking about words that fit the spelling rule the children are working on is a fantastic way to support and help embed rules and words. Teachers will set a spelling challenge on Purple Mash so that children can practise spelling a range of words with the target sound in them. We encourage children to practise their spelling sound throughout the week and look for different words that contain the specific sound / phoneme for that week. Here is a link to a Sway that will explain spelling in more detail, how it will be taught in school and also how this approach can be supported and practised at home: https://sway.office.com/Z4G68i3SiDBoMOEV?ref=Link&loc=play. Please see below for the sounds that we will be revising and learning over the next 10 weeks (each sequence represents a week, though we may take longer  on sequences when needed). Open Door

We are always happy to discuss any concerns that you may have and support your child in any way possible. The best way to do this is a brief discussion at the end of the day.  We are always happy to meet with parents after school to do this.  If this is not possible, you can send your individual class teacher as email on their addresses listed at the top of the page. However, please bear in mind that it may take up to 48 hour to respond at busy times.  If your message is urgent or involves an on the day change in pick up arrangements, we would always recommend contacting the school office directly on the details listed below.

  • Telephone 01732 847 000 – ask for a call back and the class teacher will aim to return your call the same day.

Please remember that school policy is for staff to only respond to emails within the hours of 7:30am to 5pm and that responses may take up to 48 hours at busy times.
